A brief history.
Kinston’s ‘smARTists’, as they are affectionately known, are individuals of artistic persuasion from all over the country who have come to live amongst each other in a rapidly growing art community established through the smART Kinston Project Foundation.
Kinston’s revitalization efforts have brought about a brighter, more beautiful downtown, unique lodging, cosmopolitan shopping and dining. There are also relaxing parks to stroll through overlooking the Neuse River.
Mitchelltown hosts the smARTist community whose homes are recognized by their vivid and pastel colors with white picket fences.
‘Open Studio’ happens every last Saturday of the month and is announced by blue signs in participating artists’ yards. Go on in! You are welcome to enjoy all kinds of art and a variety of treats. smART Gallery also participates in Open Studio and will have maps for you to navigate the neighborhood. Studio Tours are offered at this time as well and can be arranged by contacting the smART Gallery.
